Clarence Way Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Clarence Way of Anderson, SC passed on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Clarence was born in Atlanta, GA on April 12, 1953. He was the fourth child of Jake Phinizy, Sr. and Bernice Mitchell Way, who preceded him in death. He was a United States Navy Veteran; he went to D.T. Howard High School but transferred to Bass High in 1969 to be one of the first black students to integrate that school where he graduated. He also earned his Draftsman Certificate through the Job Corps. Clarence is survived by his two sons: Clarence Alexander and Joshua; three sisters: Catherine Way, Phyllis (Elonza) Andrews Oliver, Rosalie (Way) Evans; and a host of nephews, cousins and friends and close family friend, Adelinda LeBlanc and House of Hop International, Apostle Linda Leverette, where he had regular church attendance. Clarence was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake Phinizy, Jr. and Jimmy Lee; and one sister, Betty (Way) Lee. Funeral service for Mr. Way will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 022 at 10:30 am at Gregory B. Levitt and Sons Funeral Home (Avondale-Scottdale location). Interment will follow at National Cemetery, Canton, GA. Public viewing will be Monday, August 1, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm at the Avondale-Scottdale’s location.
